PHOTOGRAPHY TOURS.
All our workshops practice ethical bird photography.
The welfare of the birds always comes before getting shots. We do not use call playback or otherwise deliberately disturb or lure birds into the open (ie. unnecessarily increase stress levels and/or risk of predation just to get a photo). If that is what you are after, then these are not the workshops for you.
However, if you want to learn how to take images of wild birds behaving naturally in fabulous locations and natural habitats, then you will be right at home on our one of workshop tours.
With exception of Lamington, which I run with Michael Snedic (see below), I run these workshops with my good friend Dr Claire Greenwell - a conservation biologist who specialises in seabirds and also happens to take amazing bird images (she won Australian BirdLife Photo Awards Portfolio prize).
Photography Workshop Tours.
We pride ourselves in finding the best locations and times of day (yep, that often means sunrise and sunset photos shoots) to get great images of birds, especially seabirds in flight which are our special love (see Seabirds gallery).
We also love BBQ dinners at sunset, snorkelling with the fishes and picnics by the ocean - participants are very welcome to bring their partners to enjoy these 'extra-curricular' activities with the whole group.
LORD HOWE ISLAND
November 2024
SOLD OUT
You haven't lived until you have seen delicate grey ternlets swooping about the rugged crag of Balls Pyramid.
Lord Howe is not only a jaw-droppingly beautiful island of lush green mountains covered in endemic palms and girt by bejewelled seas, it is quiet, relaxed and brimming with fabulous birds, including the endangered Lord Howe Woodhen (pictured) and what is undeniably the most beautiful tern in the WORLD: The white tern - they are like little fluttering angels.
Like Christmas Island, Lord Howe is a dream travel location, even for non-birders!
CHRISTMAS ISLAND
PHOTOGRAPHY TOUR
22-29 April 2025
This is truly one of the most amazing wildlife places in the world - known as the 'Galapagos of the Indian Ocean'.
We don't go at the time of the red crab migration (many roads are closed) but you will still see hundreds of the charming little nippers (and their grumpy cousins) as well as three species of boobies and frigatebirds, noddies, red-tailed tropicbirds and arguably the most beautiful seabird in the WORLD: the Golden Bosunbird (golden morph of the white-tailed tropicbird only found on Christmas Island).
KENYA(PROPOSED)
June 2025
When my friend Faraaz Abdool (from Trinidad & Tobago) asked if I would be interested in running a joint trip to Kenya I said YES! I have been many years ago (when I had slide film!) and there is nothing that can beat an African safari under the iconic peaks of Mt Kilimanjaro. If this sounds like something you'd be interest below and I'll let you know when the details are finalised.
